Description

Just arrived at JD Classics - a beautiful ‘1962 Jaguar Semi-Lightweight E-Type Series 1 3.8 Wide-Body Coupe’. The owner took inspiration from our famous JD GT Sport Restomod and the result is very impressive!

The car was commissioned as a usable RHD GT car, designed to be comfortable and reliable for long journeys. It's a Semi Lightweight E-Type with racing styling cues, featuring a wider rear profile, Dunlop-style wheels giving the car a purposeful stance. Gibson Classics undertook the restoration over two years.

The Car was imported from Sweden and the Heritage Certificate shows it was distributed to a Stockholm dealer in early 1963, having been manufactured in late 1962. The car retained its original body, engine, and gearbox.

Body: After dipping, the body was taken to RJ Panels, an independent specialist. It was decided to replace the entire body apart from the roof. The hand-built body used zintec steel for added strength. The bonnet, doors, and boot were made from aluminium to save weight. The race-designed bonnet includes larger louvers for cooling. RJ Panels also crafted bespoke bumpers and widened the rear arches for larger racing wheels.

Engine: Rob Beere Racing prepared the original 3.8L engine, which included inspection, cleaning, machining and supplying forged pistons, fuel injection and improved cams.

Gearbox: A new 5-speed gearbox was fitted and the original Moss box comes with the car.

Cooling: The car features a high-spec radiator and an upgraded high-performance cooling fan.

Braking: The braking system was upgraded with stronger 4-pot callipers and the Series 1 bellow system was replaced with a more powerful system.

Suspension: High-spec suspension components were fitted, with improvements to make brake servicing easier.

EFI: Jenvey bodies with an Emerald EFI system, commissioned at Emerald.

Exhaust: Bespoke exhaust headers, pipe, and tailpipes were installed.

Lighting: LED lights were fitted both internally and externally.

Steering: An electric power steering system was added.

Wheels: 15” Rectangle slot Dunlop-style lightweight race wheels.

Tyres: Avon CR6ZZ tyres.

Glass: Heated front and rear glass.

Fuel Tank: An enlarged fuel tank covering the entire boot space, with approximately 100-litre capacity.

Interior: Tan interior with MX5 seats and a Bluetooth-enabled stereo system.

Paint: Portofino Blue.

Run-In: The car has completed just under 1500 miles, with a careful running-in process followed with no mechanical issues.
