Just arrived – 1961 Mercedes 300 SL Roadster
This delightful 300 SL Roadster was dispatched to its first owner in Holland on September 7th 1961, who retained the car for seven years before selling to a Mr R Melville-Smith of Malvern, England in 1968. The car remained in the UK for the next three years until moving to the Bahamas in 1973, by which time it was owned by Dr Carlo Bononi. From the Bahamas it returned first to Switzerland and then to Holland, being bought by a Mr J W Martens who refurbished the car and entered it into the 15th International Panther Rallye in 1987. Mr Martens, a keen car collector, kept the Mercedes for almost 10 years before commissioning a full bare metal professional restoration, finishing the car in its current Silver with Red. After completion of the work the car returned to these shores just after the Millennium and since that time it has been lovingly maintained by its two most recent owners, both of whom are known to JD Classics. Such is the condition of the Mercedes that it was one of just three cars to win best in show at the 2014 Goodwood Revival. Importantly it retains a full set of numbers that match the factory build sheet and comes with a very rare original factory hard top, beautiful fitted luggage, original tools, jack and an excellent history file that includes numerous invoices, copies of old log books, notes from previous owners, photographs and a factory sales brochure. In addition it has recently received a full engine rebuild from specialists O’Keeffe. As such it offers a wonderful opportunity to acquire a stunning 300SL Roadster with a fabulous history that is ready to enjoy. Please contact us for further details. SOLD.
