Description

There are many superlatives to describe this beautiful ‘1961 Chevrolet Impala’ - but we think ‘fun’ will do!

The car was imported to the UK in 2015 from Maine, USA and it then underwent a restoration including complete new floor - front to back, new wings and sills and was finished in the iconic ‘Chevy Midnight Blue Metallic’.

The Project was to recreate the Dan Gurney Impala that famously raced at Silverstone in 1961, with some minor changes to comply with today’s racing rules. The finest US Companies were used to make sure this Impala was competitive!

Powered by a legendary Chevy SS 409 V8 engine - known as ‘NASCAR Power: for the Street’ - was built by a renowned Chevy engine builder Jack Gibbs in the USA. It has a cast iron block and heads as was correct in period, with Scat BBC I beam rods, Ross custom pistons and roller rockers. The gearbox was also built in the States by Florida based 5Speeds. It is a Chevy Impala 4 speed with a Hurst competition shifter.

The limited slip differential was built by West Coast Differentials in California. The original fuel tank was removed and replaced with dual aluminium foam filled tanks, a full roll cage was added, Koni shocks and heavy duty springs installed for improved handling and the front bench seat was replaced with a pair of race seats.

The car is currently running with disc brakes but drum brakes are included in the sale.

The car was road registered in the UK in August 2018 and also has current FIA HTP papers issued in 2021.
