NEW ARRIVAL! 1953 Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster

Likely to be one of the strongest colour schemes of interior and exterior for an XK120 that so many will appreciate and admire. JD Classics are pleased to present this RHD, UK matching numbers Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster. HHS 104 is offered for sale and described as an appealing driver’s car.

The car features many exciting modifications and upgrades for those looking for traditional XK120 aesthetics with enhanced drivability, proven by it’s current owner.

HHS 104 was manufactured on the 27th of May 1953, departing the Jaguar factory with Black paintwork and distributed by Ritchies of Glasgow. The XK was supplied new by WM Bell & Co, Darnley Garage in Glasgow to its first owners, building contractors, J Woodrow & Sons in Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire. Not only does the car still retain its original engine, but it also remains in its original colour and is true to its original registration mark HHS 104. Having spent its early life in Scotland, by the late 1970's the Jaguar had made its way South to Chichester, West Sussex where it then spent most of its life.

This XK spent almost 40 years with one owner who in the later years of ownership between 2004 and 2009 rebuilt the car with no expense spared. The long-term owner continued to spend money keeping the car at a show standard level. After selling the car after almost 40 years of custodianship, in 2017 the Jaguar participated at the highly regarded Octane London City Concours Event where it was put proudly on display. The XK was also at this point registered with the FIVA ahead of potential European events.

The car is accompanied by two large history files with Invoices dating back to 2004 and another detailing the history of the cars owners over the years and various keepsakes that have been collected over the years.

The current owner is an avid enthusiast of many classic cars and this XK120 is a regular driver for him. The car has been used on local trips as well as many trips further a-field.

Upon consigning the car with JD Classics he recalled of enjoyable continental trips with the car travelling through beautiful market towns in France enroute to Cognac in September 2022.

The XK’s owner also travelled to the Nürburgring as a spectator for the 24 hours race in May 2022, to Le Mans in June 2022 and the Pyrenees for a holiday in September 2023.

HHS 104 has Coopercraft front brake discs and four pot callipers, the suspension has been upgraded with front anti-roll bar and telescopic rear shock absorbers have been fitted. Stopping power, clutch control and acceleration are all complemented by an uprated pedal box making this car very suitable to taller drivers, the period correct seats are still available. Further to this the steel tilting buckets seats in St James’ Red Leather allow the driver to sit much lower in the car and enjoy a more sporting drive.  In the interest of reliability, the XK also boasts an aluminium radiator, electronic ignition kit, alternator, Kenlowe fan and a bespoke stainless steel six branch manifold exhaust system.

The engine is fabulous with excellent oil pressure and impressive performance, the four speed moss gearbox is an analogue experience but the XK feels tight on the road with excellent handling and enhanced braking and road holding.
